Northend United 1 Downpatrick 4
Saturday saw the team travel to Grove Playing Fields Belfast to play Celtic Bhoys Downpatrick.
On a sunny morning with several players missing the team started off brightly where most of the play was in a congested midfield.
It wasn’t long before the midfield of Odhran A, John, Philip and Conor started passing the ball well, creating chances for Corey and Keane up top.
The back four of Shane, Charlie, Eoghan and Iona were being well marshalled by debutant Ronan in nets, playing out for the back at all times.
The team created chances but the goal would not come and the breakthrough came when the Downpatrick striker scored with 30 seconds left in the half.
The second half message was to continue the football being played but be more creative up top and react to the pressure as Northend tried to get back into the game.
With the introduction of Jack, the team caused more threat up top.
An award of a free kick outside the box was drilled past the keeper by Philip to make it 1-1.
Unfortunately on the day it would be Downpatrick who would run out 4-1 winners.
Panel: Ronan Traynor, Corey Campbell, Shane McGarry, Eoghan Kelly, Charlie Buick, Iona Maguire, Philip Condurache, Conor Marron, Daniel, John Doherty, Keane Crawford, Odhran Arthurs, Jack Curry and Conan Goodall.

Northend United 3 Antrim Rovers 1
A rare home fixture this week with a 9am KO saw the Agnew, Mitchell and Cairns sponsored U16s take on Antrim Rovers at the Showgrounds.
Both teams having played on multiple occasions previously were up for another tight game.
Northend started slowly, taking their eye off the ball after two minutes with one slip up from a throw in on the edge of our 18 yard line launched over the defence with the Rovers striker taking one shot to tuck it away.
A fine goal to be fair and just what it took to waken the 11 players on the pitch up!
Campbell fired up in defence and rallied the team to push forward as the back line reorganised and stood firm throughout the match.
From there on it was a dominant performance.
Northend worked the ball well with several quick responses, one of which came from Traynor’s constant pressure up front and a mistake by the Rovers keeper. He won the ball with Gordon following up behind for an easy tap in.
The team were now showing steely determination and went straight back at it with some excellent football on display. Rovers sat deep but a moment of brilliance from Gordon, taking on several players, saw him dance his way through to a fine finish.
In the second half players had to be shuffled about with injuries catching up.
This didn’t worry the Blues as they had worked on several formations, set pieces and improved communication.
The team soon settled and again dominated possession for the majority of the second half.
Several chances came and went but it was one of the set pieces that made the day and delivered the final blow to Rovers with a free kick finding McGarry exactly where he was supposed to be and the striker made certain and buried the ball into the Rovers net to the joyous roar of the players and coaches.
This was a great game today with three excellent goals - but a valuable lesson for players to switch on as soon as the first whistle blows.
Player of the Match was Harry Campbell. He marshalled the team and threw himself about for the full 70 minutes of the game.
Panel: Phelem Devlin, Jonah Mitchell, Thomas Cairns, Thomas Traynor, Jayden Cassley, Cathal Gordon, Olly Hector, Harry Campbell, Oliver Morrison, Tiernan Martin, Harry McQuillan, Dylan McManus, Rory McGarry, Reece McClintock, Mason King.
