Appeal launched in wake of devastating spill

Beloved Broughshane wildlife park will remain closed for weeks.
THE Broughshane Envionment Wildfowl and Wildlife Trust has been rightly lauded for their tireless work to promote animal welfare down the years - but now a mindless act of vandalism has left them seeking help.
There has been a solid groundswell of support following the recent oil spill into The Waterfowl Pond which killed many of the birds in their care - including two beloved Trumpeter swans, a precious black swan and more than ten ducks - and left many others on the brink.
But this week the Trust have said they will need financial support too.
“Our wildlife park needs your help!” said a spokesperson.
“We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their kindness, concern and support during this incredibly difficult time.
“Sadly, the Trust has suffered considerable losses, and significant funding will be needed to help restore our much-loved wildlife park.
“We are appealing to our wonderful local community, businesses and friends of Broughshane to consider making a donation, however small.
“Every contribution will help make a difference.
**Donations can be made via PayPal, with links available on Broughshane's website and the Trust's Facebook page - www.broughshane.org.uk/bewwt
The spokesperson added that the park is expected to remain closed for approximately ‘five to six weeks’.
Accordingly, volunteers are not required at present - although assistance may be welcomed at a later date.
“Broughshane has always been a community that pulls together in difficult times. Let's do it again!
“Please donate if you can.”
